Last night, M6 broadcast a Zone Interdite report dedicated to private detectives. For several months, I agreed to be followed by journalists to show the reality of my profession, far from clichés and fantasies.
🔍 Why did I choose to speak openly?
This is a question that comes up often. In our profession, discretion is essential, and many colleagues prefer to remain in the shadows. However, I made the conscious choice to do the opposite. Why? Because our profession is still too little known, sometimes misunderstood, and it seems important to me to present it as it truly is. We are neither vigilantes nor spies, but professionals subject to strict regulations, often working in collaboration with lawyers and magistrates.
🎬 The Final Edit: Editorial Choices
Like any report, this one required many hours of filming for a condensed final edit. Some sequences that I particularly valued, especially those showing my work with a lawyer and my interventions at the law faculty, were not kept. I would have liked these aspects to be highlighted, as they illustrate an essential facet of our profession: our anchoring in the legal framework and our connection to the law.
But that’s also the rule of the game when you agree to be filmed. We don’t control the final edit, and we have to accept that. The main objective was to show a part of our daily life, and I think that was largely achieved.
📢 An Opportunity to Better Promote Our Profession
Beyond these editorial choices, this report had the merit of highlighting the private detective profession and its role in the search for truth. It is a fascinating, demanding, and sometimes misunderstood profession. I hope this documentary will have allowed some to better understand our commitment and our work ethic.
Thank you to those who took the time to watch and discuss this. Your feedback is always valuable!
