The CNAPS<\/a>, or National Council for Private Security Activities, is the French public authority responsible for regulating, controlling, and sanctioning professionals operating in the private security sector. Established by the law of March 14, 2011, known as the LOPPSI 2 law, it operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior and guarantees the legal framework within which security agents, surveillance<\/a> companies, and licensed private detectives operate. <\/p>\n

To practice legally in France, every private detective must hold an authorization issued by the CNAPS. This authorization is not automatic: it is conditional on a clean criminal record check, validation of recognized professional training, and adherence to a strict code of ethics governing investigative practices. Without this approval, a detective cannot legally practice, and the evidence they collect risks being inadmissible in court. <\/p>\n

The CNAPS also plays a disciplinary role. It can issue warnings, financial penalties, or even withdraw the authorization to practice from any professional who does not comply with the regulations in force. This permanent control mission guarantees individuals and businesses that the professional they hire meets serious requirements in terms of ethics and competence. <\/p>\n
